It’s the Spooky Season – Finally
Getting cheeky with Candyman, Candyman, Candyman
In October 2020, two months after I started an MFA in Creative Writing Program, I was diagnosed with Lupus. Lupus is an autoimmune disease that feeds on stress - hours of reading and writing, freaking out over deadlines, and the obliteration of consistent sleep and self-care has kept me in a constant flare-up for the past 3 years. I've started several new blog posts over the past couple of years (all languishing in the draft file) but school and my illness have gotten in the way of finishing them.
My medications are mostly holding my Lupus steady. I just finished my last class requirement for my degree - a class on podcasting (fingers crossed I'll be able to add audio clips to this site now). I just need to finish my thesis (no biggie right?) and I'll get my degree.
Woot - it's time to celebrate by going to spooky events.
I kicked off the Halloween season visiting The Mystic Museum's Y2Kills, a loving tribute to the horror movies of the early 2000s. The exhibit features interactive scenes exactingly replicated from Freddy vs. Jason, American Psycho, Sean of the Dead, Trick 'r' Treat, Saw, and more.
Swooning at Jason for bringing me the head of the child molester/killer.
Too tired to "Saw" myself out - this Final Girl needed a nap
Taking an ax to the Patriarchy. American Psycho - horror through the female gaze of director/screenwriter Mary Harron and screenwriter Guinevere Turner.
The Mystic Museum is located at 3204 W. Magnolia Blvd., Burbank, California. This exhibit is running until February 2024. Visit www.themysticmuseum.com for more details.
